Description

The Amish seem to be master bakers, and they did not skimp on Amish sugar cookies.

Ingredient

- 1 cup butter, softened

- 1 cup white sugar

- 1 egg

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- Olive oil (for greasing)

- Seasoning (optional)

- Dried spices (optional)

Direction

1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until light and fluffy.

2. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.

4. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.

5. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet with olive oil.

6. Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the greased baking sheet. Leave about 2 inches of space between each cookie.

7. Optional: If desired, you can sprinkle some seasoning or dried spices on top of the cookies for extra flavor. Some suggestions include cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin pie spice.

8. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

9. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

10. Serve and enjoy your delicious Amish sugar cookies! These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
