My kids love this delicious, indulgent treat. I like to give the batter a kick by adding a pinch of cinnamon and a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Olive oil for frying
- Seasoning and dried spices of your choice (optional)
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix well.
2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add in the milk and vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined.
3. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
4. Heat enough oil in a frying pan or pot over medium-high heat. You can also use olive oil for a healthier option.
5. Once the oil is hot enough, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
6. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried cookies from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
7. If using, mix your choice of seasoning and dried spices in a small bowl. Sprinkle the mixture over the hot fried cookies for added flavor.
8. Let the cookies cool for a few minutes before dusting them with powdered sugar.
9. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious deep-fried cookies! You can also store them in an airtight container for later snacking.
