Patriotic Taco Salad

recipe Detail

Description

When my daughter asked to have a patriotic theme for her July birthday party, I made this refreshing dish. If you want to prepare your salad in advance, omit the layer of chips and serve them on the side so they don't get soggy.

Ingredient

- 1 pound ground beef

- 1 packet taco seasoning

- 1/4 cup water

- 1 head of lettuce, shredded

- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

- 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed

- 1 avocado, diced

- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

- 1/4 cup olive oil

- Salt and pepper to taste

- Dried oregano

- Dried cumin

Direction

1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

2. Drain the excess fat from the skillet and return it to the heat. Add the taco seasoning and water to the skillet and stir to combine. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until the beef is fully cooked and the sauce has thickened.

3. In a separate bowl, combine the shredded lettuce, cherry tomatoes, black beans, and avocado. Toss to mix everything together.

4. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, a pinch of salt and pepper, and a sprinkle of dried oregano and cumin.

5. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss to coat.

6. To assemble the patriotic taco salad, start with a layer of the dressed salad in the bottom of a large serving bowl. Top it with the seasoned ground beef and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.

7. Repeat the layering process until all the ingredients are used up, ending with a layer of cheese on top.

8. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious and patriotic taco salad!
